A workshop. A craftsman. Exceptional wood.

FD Cabinetmaking is a know-how rooted in the forest, a passion for living wood, and a commitment to craftsmanship at every stage of the project.

Before being worked, cut, or transformed, it had already lived. For decades, sometimes centuries, the tree grew, took root, and survived the seasons, storms, and periods of drought and abundance. It was part of a living ecosystem, connected to the earth and to other trees.

Each piece of wood carries this story within it. Its grain tells the story of the passage of time. Its variations in color bear witness to the conditions it has endured. Even its cracks, knots, and irregularities are real traces of its life.

Durability that stands the test of time.

Wood is inherently durable. It has already stood the test of time even before being processed. And when properly worked, it can continue to last for generations.

While some materials are replaceable, wood is preserved, repaired, and passed down. It gains value over the years, both through its appearance and the history it accumulates. Choosing wood means accepting that an object has a history before you… and that it will write a new one with you.

My name is Frédéric Dupuis, but call me Fred.

A proud Gaspé native, I worked for several years as a forestry technician before switching to woodworking. I needed to create, to work with tangible materials. I remain deeply passionate about the forest and its benefits, a passion that is reflected in each piece I make today.

Outside of the studio, I spend most of my free time in nature, whether in the forest or fishing for Atlantic salmon. I also share these moments with my faithful dog, Gaya. This balance between work and nature greatly inspires my creative process.

From the forest to the workshop: a natural journey.

I began my career in cabinetmaking, manufacturing moldings, before specializing in staircase construction. After several years of experience, I decided to become self-employed in 2011 and founded Ébénisterie FD.

Today, staircases are my primary area of expertise. This field allows me to work with a wide variety of styles and collaborate with different tradespeople—wood, metal, glass—to create unique and harmonious designs. For the past few years, I've also been working with solid wood and epoxy resin tables, which allow me to express my creativity even further.

Get involved in your community.

Being at the head of my company also allows me to get involved in my community. I like to give back and get involved in different causes when the opportunity arises.

FD Cabinetmaking is a blend of know-how, passion and authenticity.
